Windows blues: Microsoft's next build

Windows is about to get a major update. At an event at the end of June, appropriately named "BUILD", Microsoft will present Windows Blue, a codename for their operating Ecosystem. We don't expect a completely new version of Windows 8 so soon after its Fall 2012 release. However, given the disappointing sales numbers, we should expect some major tweaking.

Google Shopping Express - further forrays into e-tailing

Most people know Google for it's search engine and email products, a few less know it for it's mobile device operating system (Android), and even fewer still for it's music movies and books stores. But how many know Google for things like groceries or office supplies? Outside of a few individuals in the San Francisco area, more than likely no one. The big G is looking to change all that with it's new same day delivery "e-tail" business: Google Shopping Express.

Google Glass: Not so fast!

When we wrote about the Google Glasses in a previous article, the future seemed bright with a promise of changing the way we view and interact with the world. However, reaction to Google's project has turned ugly and began polarizing innovators vs privacy advocates. Throw in some zealots and we got ourselves a social upheaval.

Technology may have outpaced social development.

Vamp - A little Bluetooth amp that sticks to the side of your speaker, like Dracula

Bluetooth audio systems are nothing new in fact fellow Goodbugly contributer Neil Wynn did an excellent run down of the Croon audio set up in February, but the Vamp project on Kickstarter differs in a few ways the most interesting of which is that the Bluetooth receiver can be perched on the side any speaker.

Android phones: why so many choices?

101 flavors of Android
In the mobile phone battle, Google's Android is definitely holding the bigger stick or in this case, the bigger team. Samsung, HTC, LG, Motorola and Sony all make Android phones. That's a lot of production power for one platform. The phones are fairly similar from one partner to the next but each have added a layer of uniqueness to distinguish themselves from each other. This adds some exclusive features and interface polish over the basic functions of the Android base. It also creates a fragmentation of the Android Ecosystem and more confusion for the consumer.

Is this the right strategy for Google and its partner? What will come out of it?

Super phone king: Who takes the crown?

Who gets the crown?
Over the last few months, we've seen a slew of flagship mobile phones with companies trying to compete for the super phone king title: iPhone 5, Blackberry Z10, Nokia Lumia 920, Sony Xperia Z, HTC One and the latest Samsung Galaxy S4. No doubt that we will continue to see more major announcements year round as they try to outdo each other. Despite the fanfare, I am fairly bored with all of them.

How fast does your phone have to be? How many megapixels do you need on it? At this point, its mostly a numbers game. Aside from gimmicks such as image trickery, fitness trackers, etc, there hasn't been any real innovation. Why? Its easier to make things bigger, thinner, faster because you are dealing with fundamental engineering laws. Its a lot harder to make things better because you have to contend with human perception and try to predict the future.

How will your "TV Watching" change in the coming years?

My cable provider started pulling the plug on their analogue cable feed. So I had to take a look at my options. Surprisingly, my local market only offered a few while other lucky ones have a buffet of choices. This illustrates the fragmentation of content, medium and technologies. Access to content, the TV itself, programming and the industry is shifting.

Television is being redefined and therefore watching TV may become something else in the years to come.
